Connecting People with Jesus Christ and Growing in His Family Together

Our History

Southwest Church of the Nazarene held its first service May 3, 1992 at L and L Hall, 132nd and Highway 370. Our founding pastor is Rev. Willis Kennedy. From the very beginning we have had Sunday School classes, Sunday morning worship and Wednesday evening services. In January 1993, we rented space at Neihardt Elementary School at 155th and Drexel Streets.

Dr. Dwight Neuenschwander, Nebraska District Church of the Nazarene Superintendent, officially organized the church with fifty-nine charter members on March 21, 1993. In late August 1994, we learned that the Advent United Church of Christ had disbanded, and the property at 14808 Q Street was going to be for sale.

Rev. H. Mark Else was called to become the pastor at Southwest in July 2011. His first Sunday was on September 11, 2011. Pastor Mark, along with his wife and daughter, came to us from Chicago after spending over ten years in ministry there.

On July 17, 2012, Southwest church officially broke ground on our new education annex. This is the first major building project that the church seen since its beginning. We are blessed to have the additional space for classrooms and church dinners. Our church has a very bright future – thanks to both a faithful God and congregation.
